Research Workshops
As part of each research program, SAMSI hosts a variety of workshops during which researchers gather to focus on a program topic. Each program has an opening workshop, typically comprised of a day of tutorials and introducing some of the major research topics, followed by two and a half days of presentations from major researchers in the field, as well as by poster sessions and presentations from more junior researchers. During this workshop, the working group topics are identified and the groups are formed. Mid-program workshops are held to bring together the members of a particular working group and other interested parties from the SAMSI community who might not be participating in a working group on an ongoing basis. Finally, at the end of a program, SAMSI hosts a transition workshop. The workshop aims not only at crystallizing and disseminating the research results of the program but also at consolidating the research collaborations initiated during the program. After a program at SAMSI formally closes, many scholars continue to work with their working group cohorts on research ideas and projects born during the program.
Additionally, each summer SAMSI holds one or more short programs, usually lasting for two weeks and focusing on specific core issues in statistics and applied mathematics.
