2005 Program on Data Assimilation for Geophysical SystemsTransition Workshop: towards a Mathematical Advancement of Data AssimilationOctober 5, 2005NISS/SAMSI Building
General Information
General InformationThis workshop will conclude the 2005 SAMSI program on Data Assimilation for Geophysical Systems. The workshop aims to explore future mathematical and statistical directions and perspectives to advance data assimilation further beyond the current state-of-the-art. Primary goals of this workshop are to: 1) integrate relevant scientific areas; and 2) exploit the role of fundamental research in data assimilation which is motivated by operational applications. Additional discussion, opportunities, and a poster session will be available at the subsequent workshop on Collaborations in Mathematical Geosciences (CMG), October 6 and 7, 2005. Participants of this transition workshop are most welcome to also register for the CMG workshop. Scientific Committee: Kayo Ide (UCLA) and Christopher Jones (UNC).
ApplicationInterested individuals should apply, using the ON-LINE APPLICATION FORM. This form also includes the application form for financial support. You will be notified as soon as possible after your application if your participation will be possible; regrettably, limited seating will preclude acceptance of all applications. New researchers (graduate students, postdocs, and faculty in the early stages of their career) and members of underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply. In order to ensure your registration is correct, we ask that you:
As it is difficult to control the temperature in the large conference rooms, we suggest you bring a light jacket or sweater with you. Transportation to and from SAMSI provided by Carolina Livery. Participants at the Hawthorne, please meet the shuttle at 7:45am outside of the front lobby. Participants at the Radisson, meet the shuttle at 8:00am outside the lobby. If you miss the shuttle, please make arrangements with the Hawthorne or Radisson to bring you to SAMSI. Return details: The shuttle will leave SAMSI at 5:30pm to take participants back to the Radisson and Hawthorne.
