Types of Opportunities at SAMSI

Research Fellows

Research Fellows are visitors at SAMSI for periods of up to one year, and are associated with the individual SAMSI research programs. Support always includes office space and facilities, and can include various types of financial support. To explore possibilities as a Research Fellow, use the contact addresses for the individual programs, or contact Jim Berger ([email protected]) indicating the SAMSI research program in which you are interested and describing your interest in the area.

New Researchers

SAMSI New Researcher fellowships (up to 4) provide support of up to $20,000 in salary for semester to year-long visiting outstanding researchers who have received their Ph.D. within the previous 8 years. See the Fellows Page for more information.

Post-Doctoral Fellows

Postdoctoral fellowships are available (up to 7), associated with individual SAMSI programs, with appointments beginning in September 2010. Appointments will typically be for two years and be made jointly between SAMSI and one of its partners. Extremely competitive salaries will be offered. See the Postdoc Appointments Page for information in applying.

Graduate Students

Visiting graduate student positions are available, as long as appropriate mentoring can be arranged; mentoring can arise from the student’s advisor if s/he is also visiting SAMSI, or could possibly be arranged from the other scientists in a program. Applications should consist of a letter indicating the SAMSI programs of interest, a vita, and a letter from the student’s advisor, all to be sent to Graduate Fellowships at the SAMSI address.

Members of under-represented groups are particularly encouraged to apply for these positions.
