General Information

The main goal of this joint Mid-Program SAMSI and MUCM workshop is to report on the progress of ongoing Projects including the discussion of current bottlenecks, possible approaches for their solution, alternative approaches and related issues. Hence, the Workshop is primarily oriented to MUCM and SAMSI participants, especially (but not exclusively) to those in the Methodology and Engineering Methodology working groups (since the focus will be methodological).

The format will feature a series of talks, each followed by extended discussion of the issues highlighted by that, and previous, presentations. Selected outside experts in the field will be invited to attend to provide criticism and direction to those who will be presenting research discussions. The workshop will be accessible via WebEx and Teleconference for interested remote participants. Please contact Margaret Polinkovsky (margaret at samsi.info) if you are interested in remote participation.

Present list of confirmed speakers include Ariel Cintron-Arias (SAMSI), Jim Gattiker (National Oceanography Centre and MUCM), John-Paul Gosling (U. Sheffield and MUCM), Serge Guillas (Georgia Tech and SAMSI), Cari Kauffman (SAMSI), Herbie Lee (U.C.- Santa Cruz and SAMSI), Hugo Maruri-Aguilar (LSE and MUCM), Anthony O'Hagan (U. Sheffield and MUCM), Rui Paulo (Technical University of Lisbon and SAMSI), E. Bruce Pitman (U. Buffalo and SAMSI), Peter Reichert (EAWAG and SAMSI), Jonathan Rougier (U. Bristol, MUCM and SAMSI), Elaine Spiller (SAMSI), Gentry White (N.C. State and SAMSI), Henry Wynn (LSE and MUCM)

Present list of confirmed outside experts include Tom Loredo (Cornell University), Jerry Sacks (NISS), and Henry Wynn (LSE and MUCM).

Workshop Committee: Susie Bayarri (University of Valencia and SAMSI), Tony O'Hagan (University of Sheffield and MUCM), Peter Reichert (EAWAG and SAMSI), Tom Santner (Ohio State and SAMSI).

Application

Interested individuals should apply, using the ON-LINE APPLICATION FORM. This form also includes the application for financial support. You will be notified as soon as possible after your application if your participation will be possible; regrettably, limited seating will preclude acceptance of all applications. New researchers (graduate students, postdocs, and faculty in the early stages of their careers) and members of underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

The application/registration deadline is March 5, 2007

In order to ensure your application is correct, we ask that you:

  • refresh/reload the application/registration page to ensure you have all updates

  • type in your information (cutting and pasting will distort the information we receive)

  • make any clarifications/corrections, in the Special Requests section

  • click the submit button only once

Please make reservations at the Radisson as soon as possible. The SAMSI room block for the Radisson is effective until March 19, 2007. After this date, there is no guarantee a room will be available.  If you have a change in plans, individual room reservations must be cancelled 72 hours prior to arrival. Check-in is at 3:00 PM; check-out is 12:00 noon.
