2006 Program on Development, Assessment and Utilization of Complex Computer Models

Joint Engineering and Methodology Subprograms Workshop

October 26-27, 2006 at SAMSI

General Information

General Information

This Workshop is mainly oriented to the Engineering and Methodology working groups. While the kickoff workshop intended to have the working groups starterd, this one tries to focus their orientation, profile the main issues and interest, get the working group exposed to insights, methods and ideas from experts in the field who were not heard in the Kickoff workshop nor during the working grous meetings.

The emphasis will be on discussions, interaction, problem solving and the detailed specification of problems of engineering and more general methodology as motivated by specific computer models, data from physical experiment and/or data from such models. Specific implementation issues such as prior specifications and MCMC implementation, of the Bayesian models will be addressed. Some specific issues to receive special emphasis are problems of screening for high dimensional inputs, performing hierarchical validation (how does one do full-system validation based on a set of sub-system model validations), determining the adequacy of usual GASP emulator, addressing problems of extrapolation and high dimensional input spaces.

The format will feature a series of talks, each followed by extended discussion of the issues highlighted by that, and previous, presentations.

Present list of confirmed speakers include Anthony O'Hagan (Sheffield), Herbie Lee (University of California at Santa Cruz)

Workshop Committee: Susie Bayarri (University of Valencia, Spain); Tom Santner (Ohio State University, USA), Robert Wolpert (Local Scientific Coordinator)

Application

Interested individuals should apply, using the ON-LINE APPLICATION FORM. This form also includes the application for financial support. You will be notified as soon as possible after your application if your participation will be possible; regrettably, limited seating will preclude acceptance of all applications. New researchers (graduate students, postdocs, and faculty in the early stages of their careers) and members of underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

The application/registration deadline is October 16, 2006

In order to ensure your application is correct, we ask that you:

  • refresh/reload the application/registration page to ensure you have all updates

  • type in your information (cutting and pasting will distort the information we receive)

  • make any clarifications/corrections, in the Special Requests section

  • click the submit button only once

Travel Arrangements (airfare, hotel, etc.) should not be made until you receive notification of acceptance to the workshop.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Extended Stay Deluxe Suites, 4919 South Miami Blvd, Durham, NC.

Please make reservations as soon as possible by calling 919-998-0400. You must make your reservation before October 11, 2006.

If you have a change in plans, individual room reservations must be cancelled 72 hours prior to arrival. Check-in is at 3:00 PM; check-out is 12:00 noon.
