Research Foci

Infectious disease remains a major cause of suffering and mortality among people in the developing world, and a constant threat worldwide. The advent of genome science and the continuing rapid growth of computational resources together herald an opportunity for the mathematical and statistical sciences to play a key role in the elucidation of pathogenesis and immunity and in the development of the next generation of therapies and global strategies. The program will encompass both genomic and population-level studies, including microbial and immunological genomics, vaccine design and proteomics, drug target identification, gene expression modeling and analysis, molecular evolution of host-microbe systems, drug resistance, epidemiology and public health, systems immunology, and microbial ecology.

Program Leaders: Thomas B. Kepler (Chair) and Denise Kirschner
