Hi all,

Another great presentation today by Susie. The degree to which Bayesian
methods automatically control various error rates, the interpretation
and weaknesses of the "false discovery rate" approach, and the
remaining details for implementation (critical points etc.) were of
interest here.

In case you did not hear, there are a few of items of business.

(1) No meeting next week.
The transition workshop for the Latent variables group is next Thursday
(Nov. 10) at the Radison and many of us here have an interest in attending
(registration encouraged but not required).

(2) 5 new papers have been posted. See the Oct. 27 and Nov. 3 windows on
our web site. If you haven't presented yet (or even if you have) these
will give
some choices that you might consider doing.

(3) Upcoming -
Nov. 17 Lisa presents and we discuss future directions.
Nov. 24 Thanksgiving (no meeting)
Dec. 1 Dave (unit roots)
Dec. 8 Curt (Naus and Wallenstein that Howard mentioned)
Dec. 15 Bahjat(outliers - material that was on Nov. 10)

I look forward to our Nov. 17 meeting and discussion. I suppose we should
also think about our holiday schedule at that time and I hope some
experienced SAMSIers will tell us the expected/desired outcomes for the
later months next semester, the endgame strategy so to speak. Also hoping
that some of you who were unable to fully participate this time around
will be able to rejoin us next term. It has been very stimulating so far.

Dave
