COURSE INFORMATION
This seminar-style course will address topics in the statistical and applied
mathematical sciences relevant to national defense and homeland security (NDHS). These include:
- Biosurveillance and disease mapping, including the role of social networks
- Data integration and confidentiality
- Anomaly detection, in particular in streaming data
- Computer models, including characterization of baseline variability
- Data quality in massive databases.
Some of these topics will be presented by "guest lecturers" associated with the 2005-06 SAMSI Program on NDHS.
Each student enrolled in the course will be expected to identify and describe a problem in NDHS to which statistical or mathematical modeling is relevant,
and to outline one possible approach to the problem.
