2004-05 Program on
Latent Variables in the Social Sciences (LVSS)

Kickoff Tutorials & Workshops

September 11-14, 2004

GENERAL INFORMATION

The SAMSI Program on Latent Variables in the Social Sciences will be launched from September 11 to 14, 2004, at the Radisson Hotel Research Triangle Park in Research Triangle Park, NC. The first day will consist of tutorials and the remaining days will have presentations and discussions that will culminate in the formation of the working groups for the academic year.

A working group on synthesizing Structural Equation and Multilevel Models is already planned. For those participants not familiar with Structural Equation Models (SEMs) or Multilevel Models, we will have tutorials on both on September 11. September 12 to 14 will have a small number of presentations that will discuss unresolved problems and possible research areas in these and other areas of latent variable modeling. For instance, there will be presentations on causality, the analysis of complex samples, and longitudinal data. A good part of the time of these three days will be reserved for broad based participation to help to define which of these or other problems the working groups would like to address during the fall or spring semesters.

REGISTRATION

Registration information, including requests for financial support, should be submitted as soon as possible. The registration deadline is September 1, 2004.  In order to ensure your registration is correct, we ask that you:

Please make reservations at the Radisson as soon as possible. If you have a change in plans, individual room reservations must be cancelled 72 hours prior to arrival. Check-in is at 3:00 PM; check-out is 12:00 noon.

As it is difficult to control the temperature in the large conference rooms, we suggest you bring a light jacket or sweater with you.
