September 19-22, 2004

***Please refresh page to see current updates.***

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Opening Workshop for the SAMSI Program on Genomes to Global Health: Computational Biology of Infectious Disease will be held on Sunday-Wednesday, September 19-22, 2004, at the Radisson Hotel Research Triangle Park (formerly the Governors Inn).  It will begin with tutorials and end with initial meetings of the working groups that will form the core of the year-long program. A major goal of this Opening Workshop is to frame issues to be addressed during the SAMSI program, and the workshop will be organized to facilitate achievement of this goal. In particular, input from all participants will be sought through a variety of mechanisms.

 ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

Lindsay Cowell (Duke Univ), Tom Kepler (Duke Univ) and Denise Kirschner (Univ of Michigan)

SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Roy Anderson (Imperial College, London), Rustom Antia (Emory Univ), Carl Bergstrom (Univ of Washington), Arturo Casadevall (Albert Einstein College of Medicine), Carlos Castillo-Chavez (Arizona State Univ), Sunetra Gupta (Oxford Univ), Jun Liu (Harvard Univ), Alan Perelson (Los Alamos National Lab) and Man-Wah Tan (Stanford Univ).

LOCAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE

William Atchley (NC State Univ), Tim Elston (UNC), Andrew Nobel (UNC), Scott Schmidler (Duke Univ) and Jeff Thorne (NC State Univ)

REGISTRATION

Registration information, including requests for financial support, should be submitted as soon as possible. The registration deadline is September 5, 2004.  In order to ensure your registration is correct, we ask that you:

Please make reservations at the Radisson as soon as possible. If you have a change in plans, individual room reservations must be cancelled 72 hours prior to arrival. Check-in is at 3:00 PM; check-out is 12:00 noon.

NOTE:  The Radisson is now fully booked on September 21.  The Wellesley Inn is the best alternative option.  Please visit the SAMSI housing page for contact information.

As it is difficult to control the temperature in the large conference rooms, we suggest you bring a light jacket or sweater with you.
