Workshop on Multi-scale Challenges
in Soft Matter Materials
February
15-17, 2004
Our aim is to foster stronger interactions between the various communities of scholars who are engaged in research in soft matter materials. Representative leaders and junior scientists will share current theory, modeling, computation, and experimental observations of soft matter behavior and phenomena. The meeting will begin with overviews by members of the organizing committee, setting the stage for communication among the diverse participants, and for identification of challenges that are ripe for interdisciplinary collaborations. A poster session the evening of the first day will give ample opportunity for all participants to communicate their research programs. The second day offers invited lectures on experimentally-driven challenges to the theoretical and quantitative community, followed by invited talks on the status of computation, theory, and modeling in focused areas of soft matter. The highlight of the workshop, we hope, will be the culminating open forum to identify future challenges, potential projects, and directions of targeted collaboration. We anticipate proceedings of the workshop to be disseminated by SAMSI or by a special issue of one of the premier journals related to soft matter materials.
